Uh oh

So I had one of those runs this morning. One of those runs that lets you know you maybe need to step it up a notch.

I’ve been taking it pretty easy since the middle of the summer. Injury recovery. Hot weather. And after a while that not-working-too-hard-thing gets to be a habit. And you wake up one morning knowing that you’ve been lollygagging. (Great word, right?)

But this morning? It was not my usual run morning, but yesterday was too icy and cold to go out there — 8 degrees and slippery!!! So I went today instead, intending to do an easy 3 miles. I have a 10k on Saturday and didn’t want to overdo it or anything.

As usual I walked a few blocks, then started my watch and set off at an easy pace. Not too hard. Just hard enough to get my blood moving.

The next time I looked at my watch 3 1/2 miles had passed and only 30 minutes. For many runners, that’s no great shakes. But for me? Wow. Fastest run in MONTHS!!!!!

Time to get back to work, I guess.

  1. That’s awesome~ I love it when that happens!! I am not a cold weather fan- but for some reason I run better (faster) in the colder weather. I ran a 5-mile race in an ice storm/blizzard once, and came in at 49minutes. How I (ME!) ever came in under 10min mile pace that day is beyond me! Maybe I just wanted to hurry and get it done~ lol. Keep running! 🙂

    1. Funny how that goes — I slog through the heat and humidity of the summer — loving every minute. But as soon as the cold weather arrives, I run faster and further. You’re probably right — it’s probably just so I can get back inside out of the weather.
