After not running yesterday, I didn’t run again this morning.
Although that’s not a new thing, I don’t usually run on Wednesdays. Sleeping in a little in the very middle of the week is just a little gift I give myself. All the time.
But I woke up this morning with a headache and the one thing that always makes that better? A run. Of course.
My theory is that when I run, the blood circulating through my veins and arteries has more important places to be than in my head. Is that medically accurate? I don’t know. It’s highly unlikely.
All I know is that it works. Whether it’s a one-off headache for no reason (like today) or if it’s my usual monthly three-day celebration of agony, running makes it go away.
Of course since many headaches are caused by stress and running is a perfect stress reliever, it makes sense.
A brief review of the literature – ok, I googled it – leads me to believe that I’m not alone in this. Even the people at Marathon Training Schedule agree with me. And sort of with my cockeyed theory about why it works. Ok, they talked about blood vessels dilating. Same, same, right?
Anyway…. Since I’m NOT GOING TO RUN, I’m stopping now to go find some Tylenol. I can’t really see the monitor any more. Hope your day looks better than mine.
