In only 111 days, it will be the summer solstice. Longest day of the year. And probably my hands down favorite.
To celebrate, Asics is once again hosting their Run to Beat the Sun. They want to create a global day of running topped off by a relay race around Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in the Alps.
If you visit their website, you can either apply to be one of the 24 amateur racers running through France and Italy or you can set your own goal and be one of thousands of runners enjoying your favorite sport on the longest day of the year.
Asics promises to email updates and training suggestions to help you meet your goal (if you check the appropriate box). And on the 21st of June we can all run all day merrily together.
I probably won’t make it to the Alps this year so instead I’m going to look for a trail run, maybe an ultra, to celebrate. We could head to South Dakota to visit Phil’s family. (This run isn’t actually on the day of, but maybe that’s because the solstice is on a Tuesday this year. Rats.) Or to Quebec. That would be cool. And very beautiful.
With almost four months till the big (long) day, it’s a perfect time to begin training. So if you’ll excuse me, I think I’ll go google a few training plans.
